If you have this question, please know you’re not alone! I’m often met with a puzzled expression when I share what I do. Health coaching is a relatively new field, and at its core, it's about meeting each client where they are and offering partnership, collaboration, and accountability as they work toward where they want to go.
So often we know what we want to do for our health and wellness...it's the actual "doing" that feels like a challenge. Which is where coaching comes in. Steps you might take with a coach include:
crafting a vision for the future
considering why change is important to you
noticing what's going well
identifying areas of opportunity
reducing barriers
adjusting expectations
celebrating progress
A health coach will help you discover personal strengths, set goals, take action steps, and seek accountability. With a coach, you’ll look to the future as you explore what it means to be healthy and well, on your terms. And you'll always take the lead as you consider what's next.
Some really exciting things are happening in the field. It’s now possible for clients to use HSA and FSA accounts for payment when a doctor recommends health coaching, and you’ll find National Board Certified Health and Wellness Coaches (NBC-HWC) partnering with clients in a variety of virtual and in-person settings -- doctor’s offices, educational institutions, private practices, and so much more.
